Our Story

In the world of gymnastics, few names carry the weight of true Olympic legacy. Coach Claudia and Coach Carmo are among them.
Their journey began long before Royal Gymnastics existed—shaped by elite competition, international coaching, and a lifelong commitment to excellence. As an Olympic gymnast and world-class coach, their shared path has always been guided by one question: How can gymnastics serve children beyond performance? From 1991 to 1994, they owned and operated U.S. Gym in New Jersey—a 10,000-square-foot training center where boys’ and girls’ competitive teams thrived. During those years, their athletes earned more than 100 state, regional, and national titles, establishing the gym as a powerhouse of technical excellence and disciplined coaching. In 1994, Coach Claudia and Coach Carmo returned to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they opened ABC Olympic Gym, a school dedicated to preschoolers and school-age children. There, their girls’ team competed at the Teen Aerobics World Championships and accumulated countless state titles—while simultaneously deepening their work with younger children during the most critical years of development. Over time, a deeper realization emerged. Gymnastics is not just a sport. It is the most complete developmental tool available for children. No other activity simultaneously develops all essential physical qualities: speed; static and dynamic strength; power; endurance; active and passive flexibility; agility; dynamic, static, and recovery balance; coordination; spatial awareness; rhythm; reaction time; movement memory; bilateral control; and differential muscle contraction. When intentionally structured, gymnastics becomes a powerful driver of brain development, emotional regulation, confidence, and resilience. This understanding—combined with Coach Carmo’s lifelong commitment to continuous education, decades of hands-on experience, and his recent certification as a Brain Health Biohacker—led to the creation of The Optimum Child (TOC): the world’s first gymnastics-driven pediatric biohacking methodology. TOC was not created in a lab or a boardroom. It was born on the gym floor—through real children, real coaching, and real results. With this vision, Royal Gymnastics was launched in New Jersey as a revolutionary mobile gymnastics school, bringing professional-grade equipment and world-class coaching directly to daycare centers, preschools, and community spaces. This model removed barriers, increased access, and allowed children to benefit from high-quality movement education in environments where they already felt safe and comfortable. Since 2020, Royal Gymnastics has expanded to Sugar Land, Texas, proudly partnering with respected institutions such as Cambridge Montessori, Sugar Land Baptist Church Children’s Day Out, Children’s Lighthouse, Christ Church School, Enchantment Kids, Imagine Early Education Center, Ivy Kids, Montessori Reggio Academy, Ready Steady Go Academy, and Sugar Creek Montessori. Today, Royal Gymnastics serves children ages 2 to 10, delivering programs that are joyful, structured, and developmentally intentional. Over the years, we have served more than 30,000 children, maintaining a perfect safety record with zero incidents—a reflection of our standards, systems, and respect for child development. Fully insured and led by Olympic-level expertise, Royal Gymnastics does not simply teach skills or flips. We build confident movers, resilient minds, and strong foundations for life. |
